June has been a great month.
Great.
Blogger seems to be down today, so I will post my blog here.
I posted several new paintings in my Etsy shop...
It's really quiet around the apartment right now.
Josh, my neighbor who has a studio in the basement, is test driving Smart Cars. He might be moving to LA in August. I think I am going to miss him. I can usually hear his music coming up through my apartment, but not today...
We have been going to the movies a lot lately, and having fires in the back yard. I don't know who is going to be moving in for the next school year, but I guess we'll find out in August.
On another note, I watched this episode of 30 Rock awhile ago and I almost spit soda out of my nose
Jeremy was one of my room mated in Portland. I miss him.
I miss home.
Actually I miss a lot of things. I have been drinking.
I have a rule about drinking and blogging. It goes something like this:
Drinking + Blogging = Not a Good Idea.
But I am breaking my own rule because:
Detroit - Friends - Good Coffee - Bike Lanes = not fun at all.
Je ne sais pas.
D'accord. Ca suffit.
Je suis amoureuse de toi....
lots of hearts.
So I spent the last week in New York City. It was very cool.
You can see pictures here.
I am a little sad now. I had been looking forward to being there for the past couple of months and now it's over.
I loved being in New York. Maybe I can live there one day.
Some of the high lights of my trip are as followed:
Meeting Craig of Cubist Literature!
We hung out and I got to see his amazing studio, and meet some of the other artists that work there.
It was fun times. Unfortunately I left my camera at home...sad....
I got to hang out with my friend Butch. We had a really good time, and it was so nice seeing a familiar face from home. We were room mates in Portland, and it was nice to hang out with him again.
I went to some amazing museums and saw the Henry Darger exhibit, the Cai Guo-Qiang exhibit, and the MoMa Collection. Oh, and I also went to the Met.
I drank lots of good coffee, and ate lots of good food, including Pho (which I haven't had in months) at this great place in China Town called Pho Bang :)
I managed to figure out the Subway without getting lost, or dieing. I am pretty proud of myself for that...
Yeah, it was great and I didn't want to go home.
Yesterday was my last day and it wasn't as great...I had the migraine from hell and basically slept all day.
I also watched the entire season of Flight of the Condors. This was my favorite song, and was actually filmed not far from Butch's apartment in Williamsburg....
I did manage to feel better towards the end of the day, so Butch and I went to drop off my paintings at the Fact and Fancy Gallery in Downtown Brooklyn.
They open Saturday June 21st, and there is a reception from 4pm-8pm.
They are located at
75B Hoyt Street, in Brooklyn New York in case you might like to go, which I think you should if you live close by!!
Then Butch and I went out for dinner at a Thai Place that served his rice in a heart shape. Cute!
And then we walked over the Brooklyn bridge while the sun set...it was a perfect ending.....
I lived in Portland, Oregon for 11 years.
I moved a lot when I was growing up and Portland was the first place I ever considered my home.
It's the only place I ever felt like I really belonged.
I live in Detroit now, and I think it is the exact opposite of Portland.
anyway. That's my little whiny blog for today. :)
I am waiting for Heather Blackwell and JA to come by and drop off her painting...it's huge. It's a huge painting of one of the ladies in the sculpture department at Cranbrook. I think she said that it's 6 feet tall. Oh....I am so excited.....
I don't have any pictures of it yet....but I will.
I stole these images from her blog.
I only get to keep it for the summer. She doesn't have anywhere to store it...so it's coming to live with me.
God, I wish I could paint like her....
I try to post new things everyday.
If you live in the Detroit Metro area, there is a craft event being held in the city of Flint tomorrow.
It's called the Flint City Handmade Spring craft market. It's located 444 and 431 S, Saginaw Street in downtown Flint.
Kill Taupe, and Chain Chain Chained will be there along with a number of other vendors. :) yay! I'm excited about meeting other Etsy peeps.
Let's see...it's showering here today and every now and then there is a clap of thunder. One of the best things about the Midwest is the thunder and lightening storms.
Ok . Back to eating Gobstoppers....
I actually really like vox.
I have a blogger account, but I think this is actually way cooler.
Now...I just have to search out people to be in my neighborhood...I am really bad at this...I like people to come to me first. I think it's the whole idea of being afraid of rejection. As weird as that sounds....
Anyway.
New work!!
K. Trinks, I know you're reading this, and if you don't become my neighbor soon, I think I might cry.....
So I was going to answer the Vox Question of the day...but it's kinda lame today, so I decided against it.
Um...so they say you learn something new everyday.
These are the things that I learned today...some of them I had already learned in the past, but I guess
sometimes you learn things the hard way.1. Using power tools by yourself is probably not the smartest thing to do.
I didn't injure myself, but I thought of the possibilities if I had...and they were terrifying.
2. If I were to ever have an arch nemesis it would be gouache.
3. Drinking + loneliness = bad combination. Always.
What did you learn today?
hmmm?
These are my new drawings. I really like the thread one.
